Interesting that "The Laughin' Place" cartoon sequence from Song of the South was a part of the Disneyland episode shown tonight. There was a brief disclaimer before the episode aired making a statement that there would be scenes presenting stereotypes from an earlier era, but no big deal was made about it.

They're going to use the Vault Disney name, but they're not going to use the old Disney Channel "Vault Disney" opening from when the TDC still played vintage reruns in the wee hours?

Hopefully could be one way SONG OF THE SOUTH sees the light of day again.

I believe it was Leonard who stated at the start of the first cartoon that TCM does not believe in editing and Ben said that was correct so you will see that which will air on TCM from Disney as unedited and very much of it's time if you wish to explain to your children or grandchildren about it.

Some of my Facebook friends said one of the short cartoons was indeed edited. They showed 1932's Santa's Workshop, and the Al Jolson reference was cut. So, in that respect, it is just like Vault Disney.

Still, this stuff has been nowhere to be seen on TV in over a decade and it's back, and that's a step in the right direction.

Wouldn't it be great if they offered a one-time showing of Song of the South in HD? I'd be so impressed with their chutzpa if they'd do it, but, of course, they won't.

It's up to the CEO. I wonder if all the hoopla over The Interview will make a difference there.

Saw a promo for the next night of Disney programming, and shots from Darby O'Gill and The Little People were in widescreen! Other clips from older material were not. Make of that what you will.

Didn't see the whole promo, sorry. I'm sure they'll update the site before too long.

Although I'm guessing most of the Darby-centrism is holiday related, rather than any early look at Disney's live-action slate.

Also that they're pairing movies with their appropriate docs/featurettes, although Walt & El Grupo should properly be shown with Saludos Amigos, not Caballeros.
